In Escondida llora alguien hoy por la frustración de su deseo, Augusta Lecaros explores memory, desire, and what remains hidden or outside the field of visibility.
Drawing on memories of a lesbian adolescence, unspoken secrets, and unrequited desire, the artist transforms recognizable objects into sculptures and installations that move between the familiar and the uncanny. A school chair becomes unreachable; a trash bin holds and recites a poem; a drain contains the image of gooseflesh; a ventilation duct becomes a device of control.
The works retain traces of what they once were, while appearing altered by memory, imagination, and the passage of time. Lecaros returns to these traces to ask what remains of the past and what can emerge when it is looked at again.
The exhibition also asks us to change the way we look: to crouch, lean in, peer, look from below, or through an opening. The viewer’s body enters into relation with the body of the work, repeating the gesture of searching for what remains concealed.
Between what is remembered and what is imagined, the exhibition proposes a territory in which looking also becomes a form of searching.
