Larry González
Born Los Palos, Cuba, 1976
Larry is a Cuban artist and poet whose practice is rooted in drawing while extending across painting, sculpture, installation, video, performance, and text. Through fragmentation, collage, and accumulated visual references, his work brings together popular culture, art history, politics, intimacy, and the absurd.
His practice frequently reworks the visual codes of Pop through the cultural and political context of Cuba, destabilizing distinctions between the sacred and the profane, the public and the private, and the authentic and the constructed. Larry studied Art History at the University of Havana and worked collaboratively with Jorge M. Hernández under the name jorge & larry until 2017. His work is held in collections including Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
