Antonio Castillo (Chile)

Antonio Castillo Coo is a Chilean visual artist currently living and working in Mexico City, where he is part of the SOMA Educational Program, an artist-run initiative that has been active for over a decade. His practice is characterized by the constant exploration of narratives, techniques, and diverse processes, working across sculpture, painting, drawing, and animation. These "mediums" allow him to encapsulate a wide-ranging imagination that bridges territories, nationalities, and visual arts, establishing a dialogue between natural and artificial materials, landscapes, and beliefs.
The body plays a central role in his artistic process, acting as both the creator and the subject of his pieces. For Castillo, craftsmanship is a significant medium for expressing cultural and emotional themes, resulting in works that function as extensions of himself. In 2020, his work was selected for the MAVI UC Young Art Award, a platform showcasing the state of emerging art in Chile. His proposal integrates technique, material, and narrative into an exercise that articulates play, process, and rest as fundamental pillars of his work.

Through this approach, Castillo projects a vision in constant transformation, where each piece is a testimony to his connection with time, space, and his own corporeality.
