Alejandro Castillo is a Chilean visual artist and sculptor whose practice explores the relationship between organic bodies, natural ecosystems, and ecological transformation. A graduate of the Universidad de Chile, his work is rooted in the observation of marine species, fungi, fossils, shells, bones, roots, and other organic fragments, which become points of departure for ceramic sculptures and installations.
Working primarily with ceramics, local clays, porcelain, glass, and mother-of-pearl lusters, Castillo creates hand-built works that evoke organisms in states of mutation, fragility, and mineralization. His sculptures reflect on ocean acidification, fossilization, fungal networks, and the impact of environmental crisis on living forms. His work has been exhibited in Chile, Spain, and Germany, including Galería Animal, CCCB Barcelona, Azkuna Zentroa Bilbao, Centro Cultural La Moneda, Museo del Hongo, Kastanien Berlin, and Centro Cultural GAM.
